John Floyd Campbell is a composer and arranger of both vocal and instrumental music for all ages and abilities. He holds undergraduate degrees from The University of Texas at Austin and Texas State University, an M.M in music composition from the University of Connecticut, and a D.M.A. in music composition from The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. John’s teaching experiences have been at all levels: elementary, middle school, high school, college, and adult choir. John’s last position before retiring in 2022 was Chorus Director at the School for the Performing and Visual Arts (PVA) located at Brooklyn Park Middle School in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
John is a past recipient of an Excellence in Teaching Award awarded by the Anne Arundel County Board of Education. Before retiring from teaching in 2022, he was active in the American Choral Directors Association, the National Association of Music Educators, the Maryland Music Educators Association, and MUSIK, the Maryland Chapter of the Organization of American Kodály Educators. He served as president of MUSIK from 2002 -2005. A native of Texas, John resides in Maryland with his wife Mary, a pianist and musicologist. Maura, their oldest daughter, is preparing for graduate studies in Medieval History and Literature. She is an accomplished musician, currently singing in a rock band and is a 2020 graduate in flute performance from Shenandoah Conservatory. Emma, their youngest daughter, is a graduate in English Literature/Creative Writing at Washington College. She plans to attend graduate school next year.
